This band season will be like no other. There are many exciting ideas that are being prepared for this school year. There are also new faces in the band and a new and improved show. I spoke with Mr. Gorecki about his goals for this year and competitions to come in the future. Mr. Gorecki’s goal for the band students is always that they learn how to respect and cooperate with each other, and that they put on an awesome show for the audience! The band will be attending three competitions this year in Monticello, Newton, and Effingham. To prepare for the performances they practice together everyday during first hour and Wednesday evenings.
Their biggest competitors, since we are a smaller school, are Okaw Valley, Heritage, Arcola, Bement, and Oblong, which all have excellent band programs. Now, for the question we have all been waiting for: What songs are the band going to play during the games? The band is going to stick to the more traditional songs since most of their rehearsal time and effort goes into the halftime show, which always delivers. Needless to say, this band season is going to be very fun and exciting, and with many hours of practice plus competitions, it is sure to be memorable.
